Default Windows XP System Restore Problem

I downloaded Pest Trap, a spyware program, that I thought was safe but found
out was a malicious syware program. I have removed the spyware program.
I am not able to use the system restore function. Every time I try, the
computer says "unable to restore" I checked to make sure system restore is on
but I think I may have lost some windows files.
Any suggestions or ideas? Thank you

Pest Trap is *not* spyware. It's not a program you should use (because
false positives work as goad to purchase, and because it has
inadequate scan reporting), but it doesn't account for your System
Restore problem.

Read about Pest Trap he

As far as your System Restore problem, you probably have corruption in
your restore points. Try turning System Restore off, then back on.
That will cause the loss of your existing restore points, but they are
no good anyway.
