I have hundreds of programs on this computer, all the latest version, all working fine. Sometimes I download an update to a software I like and the installer says "your OS is no longer supported". So it's more useful to know which was the last version that worked. Sometimes it's just a compiler switch the developer was too lazy to include and/or a few minor adjustments (case of FFmpeg). Sometimes the developer has to complete re-write the software to cater for the likes of Win 10, in which case I don't blame them for not maintaining a separate version for XP. The trouble with "not officially supported' means it might crash on some vital mission. If you do run into any problems, please update the thread. Funny thing, the audacity site now lists v 2.06 as the "last one to support XP". "For Windows 98, ME 2000 and XP see Legacy Windows Downloads." https://www.audacityteam.org/download/legacy-windows/ When I downloaded 2.13 it listed XP as a compatible OS. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Audaci...#Compatibility []'s -- Don't be evil - Google 2004 We have a new policy - Google 2012 |

Palemoon 26.5.0 - the standard version crashed immediately. The XP/Atom version has never crashed (I corrected the list above). Major bother was FreeDownloadManager does not work with Palemoon. I replaced it with DownloadThemAll, have done about 600 downloads, but can't figure out how to save the file/URL history to a text or html file. It stores all the data in encoded files (dta_log.txt and dta_queue.sqlite). It's getting slower and slower to load. DTA version 2.0.16.1 in case anyone is interested. Last version to work with Palemoon XP. []'s -- There is a new XP compatible version of Pale Moon called "New Moon", and it installs ok, but I had those Secure Connection blocking issues on a couple of sites, just like I did with Pale Moon version 26.5 (but not 26.4). But I've also noticed that Pale Moon sometimes has a few other issues in rendering web pages on a few other sites, so maybe it's best to stick with Firefox.(JMHO). Too bad, as I really preferred Pale Moon. I'm not too concerned with TLS 1.3. I never do any online shopping or banking. Even if I did, all the local banks are TLS 1.1 and TLS 1.2 Palemoon works fine so far. If I ever have to update (because ordinary sites start enforcing TLS 1.3), I'll probably just boot into Linux (use Devuan). The New Moon project looks interesting. I'll wait for it to be more thoroughly audited though, before I try it. Thanks for the tip. []'s -- Don't be evil - Google 2004 We have a new policy - Google 2012 |
