Default Update.inf not verified. Crypto is being bad. Tried Lots of Stuff.

-----Original Message-----
Using XP.
I've deleted the blasted blaster worm. I've downloaded
the security patch.

Got the error: Update.inf cannot be verified, check the
Crypto Services.

Checked the Crypto Services, they're on. Restarted them
just in case. No luck again.

Scoured the internet for additional resources, tried the
Safe Mode fix, tried the Catroot2 log file deletion,
tried the registry fix, started and rebooted and command-
lined the crypto services about 27 times, tried all the
so-called fixes on the entire microsoft website world of
wonder. please don't refer me to a previous already-read
post.

If there were no such thing as Cryptographic Services, i
believe this patch would be so excited to find out that
its Update.inf file is actually a very nice file since it
just installed it. and maybe it would just work like a
charm and i would be all safe and cozy with no open ports
begging some wormy piece of crap to worm its way into my
system.

by the way I can't get to the Windows Update website,
purportedly because of security settings, but you and i
know that those settings are perfectly fine, i checked
and double checked again and again.

The next step i shall take will be drastic. I shall
either reinstall windows XP completely and start over, Or
i shall go and buy one of them Macintosh machines and not
worry about viruses ever again. Its funny that Worms
don't like Apples. haha.

but this patch is not funny. please respond.

I am having the same problem with this worm non of the

patches seams to work for me so far, even paid support is
not easy to get over the phone. I have one option left
return the one week old PC to Circuit City or switch it to
a mac

The patch is NOT the fix.
The patch is the prevention.
You ALSO need to fix the computer.
You most likely have a worm W32.Blaster.Worm
DISCONNECT the subject computer from any network IMMEDIATELY.

Install or enable a firewall IMMEDIATELY:
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=283673

VERY IMPORTANT to follow ALL steps, closing ports or installing the
patch is NOT enough.
Download the patch and regedit referenced in the article below.
You may need to do this at an uninfected computer and burn to CD or
save on floppies.
Each file is small enough to fit on a floppy.

Follow this to clean and protect your computer:
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_qr.htm#rpc

After this is resolved prevent similar occurrences by installing ALL
Critical Updates from Windows Update.
Keep antivirus up to date and run at least weekly.
Install or enable a firewall.
