Default Generic IEEE 1284.4 Printing Support Problem

When I go into Device Manager, there is a yellow question
mark next to "Generic IEEE 1284.4 Printing Support".
When I try to update the driver, the Hardware Update
Wizard cannot find the file it needs. How do I resolve
this? Thanks in advance.

Steve in CT: Did you get an answer to this problem ?

I have the same problem and have not been able to solve it. Where do you find the IEEE 1284.4 driver ? I have searched the web extensively to no avail.

Thanks

Notme

How? Easily! :-)

Unplug your Hewlett-Packard printer from your computer's USB port.

Take the Hewlett-Packard CD-ROM that came with your printer,
and re-install the Hewlett-Packet software drivers for your printer.

When the Hewlett-Packard installation software tells you to
reconnect the printer, reconnect the printer.

Print a test page.

If you don't have the drivers, try http://www.hp.com/support
From that site, you can either download the drivers,
or you can place an online order for the drivers
to be shipped (UPS ground) to you.

nah its not soo easy if you dont have the CD, I have the problem and the drivers which come from the HP site do not have an Setup.exe file. Just the .inf , so installing the drivers without attaching the printer is the problem i'm currently having.
