Automatic updates fail to install
After a repair installation Automatic updates doesn't work. My computer
seems to constantly be down loading files, and I keep getting messages that "so and so" update was not successfully installed. Checked for spyware/virus, all clear. ??? -- Ed H Dell Dimension 4550, WinXP Home SP2 60 Gig. HD, 512 DDR, Pentium IV 2.40 GHz. |

Automatic updates fail to install
Download the latest Windows Update Agent: (Applicable to your version of
Windows) http://support.microsoft.com/kb/927891 Type "Location of your file here" /wuforce in the run command and press Enter. You don't even need to restart your PC! For example: if your file is stored in C:\Downloads, you need to type exactly like this: "C:\Downloads\WindowsUpdateAgent30-x86.exe" /wuforce -- Rey "Ed H" wrote: After a repair installation Automatic updates doesn't work. Automatic updates fail to install
I think that did it. The yellow flag is gone and the CPU is finally at rest
but when I go to the update site it says I need to register so I click yes and then it says the page can not be displayed? I don't know if I or windows is the problem. -- Ed H Dell Dimension 4550, WinXP Home SP2 60 Gig. HD, 512 DDR, Pentium IV 2.40 GHz. "Joan Archer" wrote in message ... Updates are not installed successfully from Windows Update, from Microsoft
Update, or by using Automatic Updates after you repair a Windows XP installation: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/943144 NB: Also applies to clean installs, upgrade installs, and Recovery installs. -- Windows Update-specific newsgroup: news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsof....windowsupdate ~Robear Dyer (PA Bear) MS MVP-IE, Mail, Security, Windows Desktop Experience - since 2002 Ed H wrote: After a repair installation Automatic updates doesn't work. Automatic updates fail to install
What is the *exact* message displayed ?
Regarding KB943144, did you install the latest Version of the Windows Update Agent *and* register wups2.dll at a Command Prompt ? Automatic updates fail to install
Hello, I have exactly the same problem. I followed the instructions above but I still get automatic updates prompting me to install an update which is not installed successfully - and this perpetually repeats with the CPU at 100% - so the PC is very slow. the update that does not install is : SQL Server 2005 Service Pack 2 (KB948109). I followed the instructions on 'Updates are not installed successfully from Windows Update, from Microsoft Update, or by using Automatic Updates after you perform a new Windows XP installation or you repair a Windows XP installation' (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/943144) however on step 1b when I type net stop wuauserv I get a message: "System error 2 has occurred. The system cannot find the file specified." So I proceeded to disactivate automatic updates via the control panel before proceeding to step 2. Step 2 did something - it seems it recognized wups2.dll. However once doing this step I still get the same problem. Please help. Thanks. Raff -- Remolbarca |

Automatic updates fail to install
I am having the exact same problems that you are experiencing. I too did all
the steps as are outlined at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/943144. It still does not work. I also noticed, that the four updates that are trying to install contain 0 bytes and 0 time to download when I checked them on the MS update website. In addition my installer does not work either, but I will post a separate message for that cumbersome problem. Monika "Remolbarca" wrote in message ... Hello, I have exactly the same problem.
