Looking at CDiags for Barry and Maureen, I see no problem with Barry pinging nor viewing itself nor Maureen. Maureen cannot view Barry, that is currently the only problem I see. You say you have only Windows Firewall on either Barry or Maureen. Do you have any other security products on either (Norton, McAffee, Symantec etc)? -- Cheers, Chuck Paranoia comes from experience - and is not necessarily a bad thing. |

Here's ipconfig and Browstat from barry. Barry, Is IPX un installed from Barry? To do that, you need to go into Local Area Connection Properties, select NWLink IPX/SPX, and Uninstall. Not go into the protocol list and uncheck. To ensure accuracy, once IPX is removed, we need a complete picture of your situation. This includes browstat, ipconfig, and cdiag run on both computers, all taken at approximately the same time. Remember, the contents of ipconfig feed the code in CDiag. It would also help if your cdiag code would be exactly as I posted it some time ago. The Microsoft scripting language in which it is written may look like gobbledygook to many folks, but it is very syntax dependent, and very precise. Only with accurate and complete diagnostics can we accurately identify the problem. -- Cheers, Chuck Paranoia comes from experience - and is not necessarily a bad thing. |

IPX is a redundant protocol, and having it on your LAN can interfere with diagnosis of your problem. Please start by redundant protocols from the list of items under Local Area Connection Properties. You only need the following items in the list: Client for Microsoft Networks File and Printer Sharing For Microsoft Networks QoS Packet Scheduler (optional) Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) Reboot and rerun browstat and ipconfig on both computers, and post updated output. To repeat an earlier question (apologies if we covered this before), did you enable the Guest account, using Start - Run - "cmd" - type "net user guest /active:yes" in the command window, on both computers? -- Cheers, Chuck Paranoia comes from experience - and is not necessarily a bad thing. |

Regards Barry Hi Barry, In the other threadlet I explained the difference between unchecking a protocol (from binding?) and un installing the protocol altogether. You need to un install IPX/SPX, then rerun browstat on both computers. After that I lost track where we are. You have replied a couple times, but I wasn't sure which of my posts your updates were responding to. At any rate, if you've un installed IPX/SPX from Barry, I guess we need to see what we've accomplished. So, I'd like to see browstat, cdiag, and ipconfig from each computer once again, and see what changes we have since the last time. Remember that a successful cdiag depends upon all names and ip addresses from all ipconfig listings, so it's good to run both, for all computers, at the same time. With DHCP to consider, if a computer was to use a different ip address, we'd totally get confused by results from cdiag. -- Cheers, Chuck Paranoia comes from experience - and is not necessarily a bad thing. |
