Default Disconnecting without warning XP Messenger, urgent!

I do not get notified that I get disconnected from the Windows Messenger. To
realize that I get disconnected I have to change my status from "Online" to
"Busy" (or the other choices). This happens quite often when someone is on my
other computer through a wired router. I have a linksys router (if this has
anything to do with my problem). I do not get disconnected from the Internet
with either of these computers.

This is an urgent issue for me and would appreciate a reply acknowleging
that this post has been read.

Regards,

Chris

Greetings Chris,

Depending on how old this router of yours is, it may require a firmware update to fix this
issue as some of the older Linksys routers and firmware constantly had this problem.

However, another solution would be to give up using Windows Messenger and use either MSN
Messenger (http://messenger.msn.com) or Windows Live Messenger (http://ideas.live.com)
instead as the protocol was re-engineered to fix this problem quite some time ago (but
Windows Messenger is using an older version of the protocol which is nearly six years old
now).
