Default File sharing issues

-----Original Message-----
I recently set up a home network of 2 computers and a

Linksys 4-port router, model BEFSR41. Both computers can
access the internet just fine, but when I try to share
between the computers, things go wrong. Both are running
Windows XP, both are in the same workgroup, both have
only TCP/IP protocol installed, as well as Client for
Microsoft Networks, File and Printer Sharing for
Microsoft Networks, and QoS Packet Scheduler. When I try
to access the other computer, whicever machine was booted
most recently gets the error message "[workgroup] is not
accessible. You might not have permission to use this
network resource. Contact the administrator of this
server to find out if you have access permissions. The
list of servers for this workgroup is not currently
available." The other machine can see the workgroup, and
a list of computers on the network (namely, the 2
computers connected), but cannot access either of them,
arriving at a similar message, but replace "[workgroup]"
with "[machine name]". I tried re-running Network Setup
Wizard on both machines, to no avail. I tried the
network troubleshooting wizard, which basically told me
to come here. Can anyone help?
.
I have pretty much the exact same problem with a twist.

I have two XP Pro machines networked wirelessly through
a Belkin router (802.11b).
They were both accessing internet fine, as well as
sharing files and printers for months.
All of a sudden I can no longer share files and printers,
though both get internet fine and can ping each other.
One of the machines had a fixed ip (necessary for a port
forwarding process) the other set to obtain ip
automatically.
I have rerun the Network wizard, checked the workgroup
name, uninstalled and reinstalled printer and file
sharing, etc.
Nothing works to re-establish file and print sharing.
Anyone have any ideas/explanation?
Thanks.

Len,

It is to your advantage, as well as the OP, that you post a separate article
asking for help. Mixing your problem, and the OP, in the same thread works for
nobody.

Cheers,
Chuck
Paranoia comes from experience - and is not necessarily a bad thing.
