Default external CD-DVD burner purchase

I'm about to buy a netbook running WinXP, and I know I'll need an external
CD/DVD burner. Any suggestions of important things to look for? to avoid?
The price range I've seen so far at Newegg is $30 to over $100, with most in
the $50s. Does price correlate with quality in this area? Are there any
brands that seem to work particularly well with netbooks?

Thank you!

Jo-Anne

Try the "PC Magazine" or "Computer Shopper" web sites for hardware reviews
of the items.

Price has no meaning in quality. Look at the customer rating and
comments. A $30 unit might out perform a $100 unit.

Look for "brand" names and a fair warranty period. I have seen a 90
day warranty period, which is too short.

Jo-Anne, if all you want is a CD/DVD burner ( External ) then any mid
range drive will work fine. I am partial to LG but I would
advise reading the user comments which can be found by clicking on the
drive you are interested in.
You can also look for a independent review by typing in the
make and model number of the drive with review in google.

Thank you, Jerry! I tried both websites as well as PC World, and I found
little that helped. Some of the reviews were way out of date, and others
just didn't cover the kind burner I need.
