Default File sharing issues

I recently set up a home network of 2 computers and a Linksys 4-port router, model BEFSR41. Both computers can access the internet just fine, but when I try to share between the computers, things go wrong. Both are running Windows XP, both are in the sam
e workgroup, both have only TCP/IP protocol installed, as well as Client for Microsoft Networks, File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks, and QoS Packet Scheduler. When I try to access the other computer, whicever machine was booted most recently
gets the error message "[workgroup] is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions. The list of servers for this workgroup is not currently
available." The other machine can see the workgroup, and a list of computers on the network (namely, the 2 computers connected), but cannot access either of them, arriving at a similar message, but replace "[workgroup]" with "[machine name]". I tried re-
running Network Setup Wizard on both machines, to no avail. I tried the network troubleshooting wizard, which basically told me to come here. Can anyone help?

Nick,

What version of XP? Home or Pro?

Any software firewalls on either computer? Software firewalls frequently cause
problems with the master browser and file and printer sharing.

Cheers,
Chuck

One computer is running XP Home, the other is running XP Pro. I was running Zone alarm on one of the computers, configured properly for sharing, but now I've uninstalled it and I'm still having the same problems.

Nick,

Zone Alarm is known for causing problems with file sharing even after un
installed. You have to follow ZA un install procedures religiously, to get it
un installed successfully. I have advised in several cases where the only
solution (short of re installing the OS and all applications) was to re install
ZA, then un install it again.

Cheers,
Chuck
