How can I make links in Google Earth open in Firefox instead of IE?
Greetings, group. I have a question: How can I make links in Google Earth open in Firefox instead of IE? The only setting regarding browsers I can fine in Google Earth is the "Open links in external browser" checkbox, which is checked. So clicking on a hyperlink in Google Earth *should* open the linked-to page in my default browser (Firefox.) That's not what's happening, though! Instead, links open in Internet Explorer. So, how can I fix that? (It seems that I had to contend with this problem on another computer a couple years ago, but I don't remember how I fixed it. Some registry setting or something.) Thanks in advance to anyone who can shed some light on this issue! OS version: Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 3 IE version: 8.0.6001.18702 Firefox version: 3.6.15 Google Earth Version: 5.1.3534.0411 (PS: I was tempted to start by asking this in a Google Earth or Firefox related group, but I figure that Windows XP has to be the "intermediary" here, passing info from one program to the other; so I decided to ask here.) -- Cheers, Robbie Hatley Stanton, CA, USA lonewolf (at) well (dot) com http://www.well.com/user/lonewolf/ |

Why aren't you asking in an IE newsgroup or the FireFox newsgroups?

So too are some other apps (e.g. those called by links in (MS) email. When Firefox is currently loaded, Google Earth links seem to load OK in Firefox. The problem appears only when no browser is currently loaded, i.e. whatever executes the file call must get a browser to load before it can load the link. -- Don Phillipson Carlsbad Springs (Ottawa, Canada) |

That's not what's happening in my case, though. All links in Google Earth load in Internet Explorer only, not in Firefox (which is set as default browser), regardless of which browsers are/aren't currently running. All the "URL" file types in "Folder Options" are pointing at Firefox, too, as far as I can see. But GE still opens links in IE instead of FF. And like I say, I used to have this problem handled, but had to switch operations to a different computer, and I don't remember what I did to fix this problem the last time. Anyone have any clues? (On the other hand, I suppose its possible that recent versions of Google Earth may force IE regardless of what's in the registry, so it may be that this problem is simply not solvable. But never hurts to try to find a solution.) -- Cheers, Robbie Hatley Stanton, CA, USA lonewolf (at) well (dot) com http://www.well.com/user/lonewolf/ |
