McAfee is such a garbage program in any case that trying to install a Service Pack while it is running is a recipe for disaster. Access denied to stopping service in normal mode, although it will stop in
safe mode if you disable in msconfig. "Mark" wrote in message ... Why not? "skeet3" wrote in message ... Unfortunately, it doesn't work that way. Can't stop the service! "Mark" wrote in message ... Has anyone successfully installed SP3 with McAfee Real-time scanning service running? Enterprise editions of antivirus programs have nothing in common with the consumer editions. I'm glad that things worked out well for you. Best practice when installing an operating service pack is to install it with minimal programs running and in particular no antivirus running. The OP should download SP3 directly and then install in Safe Mode.
