Office14 Word10 escaping from a file.
Everything else in the Office suite allows closing a file with a small
cross at the top rhs of the page. Word lacks this! Is there a SINGLE key to close a file or something simple for the mouse to click on? |

I have the latest version of Word and it still has the cross on top rhs to close the window. If you click the desktop background with the mouse and then press alt-f4, the shutdown menu for Windows will appear instead. Don't be hammering the Return key right after pressing alt-f4, in case that would select an item in the Shutdown menu that you had not intended to trigger. Windows 8.0, the Metro applications were missing the "X" in the upper right hand corner. Alt-f4 was my friend back in that era. This was fixed in Windows 8.1 and the "X" was put back where it belongs. In Windows 10, the "X" should be in the upper right hand corner, just like normal. Alt-f4 should not be needed in Windows 10, but it's still an available option depending on your work habits. For example, when the Win10 menu subsystem was "broken" and it had become difficult to get the Power thing in the lower left corner to work, I uses alt-f4 as my means of getting to the optional shutdown menu. Worked a treat. So even though, strictly speaking, Windows 10 doesn't need alt-f4, there can still be situations where there is a use for it. It can get you out of a jam. Paul |

I don't know of a SINGLE key but I don't find any difficulty using my thumb to hold the 'Alt' key and use any finger to press the 'F4' key. |

You need to change the theme of your Microsoft Office so that people with vision disabilities (there are many here because of their advanced age and dementia) can see everything on their screen. { alt-no } https://i.imgur.com/Ctt1o25.png -- With over 1,000,000 million devices now running Windows 10, customer satisfaction is higher than any previous version of windows. |

I think you need new glasses (or a sensible coloured Window title bar)! https://postimg.cc/nssJLnPZ See that cross in the red circle snipped from your image? No, that one shuts down Word, not just the document. |

No, that one shuts down Word, not just the document. Hmm.. The version that I'm using under W7 will only show the close icon if you have more than one document open. If you want to close a single document without closing Excel itself you have to use the Close menu entry under the Office button. -- Regards John ) Remove the obvious to reply... |
