Hello Jimbo,

I hope you get a reply, because my problem is the same as yours, except
my 'warbling' is so fast that it sounds like chipmunks. Cannot
understand a word, but the picture is fine.

I too put on vlc, as it seemed to be the thing to do if an xp user
wanted to watch a dvd, microsoft are no help at all.

Maddi.

If you have IDE drives go into Device Manager and make sure DMA is turned on
in "IDE Controllers". Mines using Ultra DMA Mode 4. Anything but PIO should
be good though.

OEM computers usually have player software. Retail DVD drives, burning
software like Nero or Pinnacles Studio and ATI tuner cards all come with
MPG2 CoDecs that can be used to Play DVD. I have at least 4 on my system.
Once you have the CoDec, Media Player can use it, if need be. My last 2
drives came with WinDVD and PowerDVD. SE versions but they work, except for
5.1sound.

IIRC got a free CoDec at sourceforge.net for someone else. Believe it was
this one.

Good Luck!
