adding a drive to WindowsXP
I have a new drive that has info on it from a Windows2000
machine. It was seen by WindowsXP and it recognizes the 2 NTFS partitions on it however I cannot access it. How can I setup WindowsXP to recognize this new harddrive without losing the information on it? This is my 2nd post. The previous replies on 6/14 mention initializing the drive and taking ownership. I understand this and I will on all the files as soon as I can explore the drive. In disk manager, it shows the partitions as NTFS however if I attempt to explore it, I get an error message reading: "F: drive is (I forget..I'm not at that machine now). Access is denied". Essentially, I cannot access the drive. How do I take ownership of it in WindowsXP? |

adding a drive to WindowsXP
Is it possible to boot the win2k drive and then do a backup to tape or CD's
of the data you want to retrieve? Otherwise I think you're running into NTFS security problems. I'm not sure if you can convert the NTFS partitions back to FAT 32 which would solve the problem but I would think that backing up the data to CD's or tape would be a safer solution.
