Default Calendar Program Recommendations

After my latest system crash, I have lost my old Calendar Creator program
and it won't reinstall properly. But the latest version is such bloatware
that I am reluctant to buy/install it. I don't need 200,000+ pieces of
clipart (I don't need any), or 500+ templates, or that many fonts -- just
one will be fine.

All I need is a very simple program that is able to keep track of and
update birthdays, anniversaries, etc. (i.e. this is the nn-th anniversary
of xx); and will also print monthly calendars.

Is anyone using such a program and is happy with it? If needs be, I will
be happy to pay for it, if necessary to avoid bonus malware.

Thank you very much for any recommendations.

Check out Mozilla Thunderbird, along with the Lightning calendar add-
on. It seems to be modelled after Microsoft Outlook. I don't have much
experience with it, but it seems pretty good, and the price is right.

I've used AnyTime Deluxe for years. You might not need the "deluxe"
version, I'm not sure why I have it. The program is a tab bit buggy,
things like the "reminders" popping up unexpectedly, but it doesn't
crash. I use it because I repeat certain things on a differently daily
basis, repeat every 2 days, 5 days and it does that.

http://www.individualsoftware.com/so...nal_organizer/

You can look at screenshots and see if it fits your needs. It's got a
bunch of crap that I don't use, like an "Earth Clock" and something
called "Sticky Notes".

It's also available at Amazon, for about $15 to $25.

I took a quick look at the Calendar Creator web page. It's more of a
creative calendar maker but it is cheaper than what I'm using and you
are familiar with it. Does it allow for a custom install where you don't
have to load all the crap you don't want?

I did a quick search and turned a free one:

Thank you for the rec and link, rednoise.
If I interpret it correctly, doesn't it imply that I would have to install
the email client Thunderbird in order to use the Lightning calendar?
If I am wrong, please correct me.
Thank you.

Thank you, JD. I will check out your AnyTime and Efficient links.

Re your Calendar Creator question, AFAIK it doesn't have a custom install
to escape all the crap. In fact my old version loaded even more crap, like
shortcuts to open an AOL account, to advertisers, and inserted a bunch of
links that I didn't want into my bookmarks! A real PITA!

But aside from all that though, CC worked for me. I would just like
something a little less bloated than the current release, if possible.

I'm still accepting suggestions if you or anyone has any more.
Thank you very much.

I'm normally a bottom poster. So, I'm a little out of my normal reply
technique.

AFAIK, to use a Thunderbird add-on, you'll need to install Thunderbird.

Take a look at my suggestions and message back if you have any questions
and please let us all know what you finally decide to do.

You might be interested in Active Desktop Calendar, by Xemi Computers.
Not free, but it's shareware.

I don't use it any more, it did use it for many years (I just don't need
it now). I like it as it works straight from your......er, Active Desktop.

A little feedback, as requested...

Thank you all *very much* for your recommendations. I have looked at ALL
of them. IMHO, from their online descriptions, and from my questions to
their sales support, they are all quality products. That's the upside.

The other side, is that each is missing one or more features that I have
become accustomed to, and I am also already familiar with the Calendar
Creator cockpit. So, even though I dislike the bloatware, I have
reluctantly decided to just stick with it.

What I can say, if anyone is interested, is that IMHO CC does nearly
everything calendar-related that I can imagine. So if that is a solution
that others might be seeking, I would recommend it.

It is currently on sale, for two more days, for $20 U.S. Here is the link:
http://www.broderbund.com/p-116-cale...luxe-v121.aspx

Thanks again for your inputs, and regards!

Thanks for letting us know what you decided. Sometimes it's just easier
to go with what you're used to, bloatware and all. 8-)

Do you recall what version of CC you were using?

My old version was 8.x. I cannot find a date on the CD but it was pretty
old. Hopefully they have eliminated the gratuitous crap-links by now...
