Security Center - Firewall
I just installed Winodws XP SP2 and I have a problem with
the Security Center. I do not want to have the Firewall active. Therefore, I launch the Security Center, Choose - Change the way Security Center alerts me, uncheck the Firewall box, Click the OK button and close the Security Center. The little icon in the task bar goes away. However, as soon as I reboot, the Security Center icon is back, complaining that I don't have my Firewall active. How do I turn the Security Center alert Off? Thanks. |

In the Security Center, under "Resources" on the left, click "Change the way
security center alerts me." Jon "Jim Hohman" wrote in message ... I just installed Winodws XP SP2 and I have a problem with the Security Center. I do not want to have the Firewall active. Security Center - Firewall
I am having the same problem. I have unchecked that several times now and
after reboot it is checked again. It won't stay unchecked. There has to be something else going on here. Anyone have any other ideas. Thanks, Ed. "Jon Cosby" wrote in message nk.net... Anyone have any other ideas. Hi If this setting is reset at each reboot: Someone in another newsgroup thread indicated that a Symantec service was the cause for this behavior on his computer (I can't remember in what newsgroup though). To "solve" this problem, disable the Security Center service: Start/Run -- services.msc Find "Security Center" in the list, double click on it, set "Startup type" to Disabled. There is also a Group Policy setting available to disable the Security Center (Start/Run-- gpedit.msc). Take a look at the chapter for the Security Center in 06_CIF_Maintenance.DOC What settings are added or changed in Windows XP Service Pack 2? Group Policy settings (page 26 for me) 06_CIF_Maintenance.DOC ("Changes to Functionality in Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2, Part 6: Computer Maintenance") can be downloaded from he http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...DisplayLang=en Note: WinXPSP2_Documentation.zip contains all the .doc downloads... -- torgeir, Microsoft MVP Scripting and WMI, Porsgrunn Norway Administration scripting examples and an ONLINE version of the 1328 page Scripting Guide: http://www.microsoft.com/technet/scr...r/default.mspx |
