My HP desktop upgraded to KB4340917 Early Tuesday morning. As I was
going to be busy Tuesday afternoon, I tried to update my laptop. It
found there was no updates available. As of to day the laptop still is
being told there are no updates available.

Will there be no updates for the general population of computers for August?

You can disable updates on Tuesday morning and wait for people to post
direct links for download (Cumulative and Delta) on this newsgroup after
18:00 hrs on Tuesday evening BST (UK time).

On newer machines using UEFI the disable will work as long as you don't
switch off the machine. On older BIOS the disablement will stick until
you switch/enable again. My old DELL machines hasn't received any
updates since April 2018 so perhaps I'll update it this month. My
Toshiba laptop is still on: 1709 - 16299.492 and it will be upgraded to
1810 when it comes out in September/October.

Nah. I will take my chances on my decade old machines. Plus, doing
manual downloads and installs are tedious. Also, it is good to do
monthly C: backups which I did after midnight today before going to
sleep.
