Default Windows XP SP1

The Windows XP Service Pack 1 is installed on my
computer. For some reason I get a message saying, "this
setup will only upgrade over an existing version of the
Microsoft VM" every time I try to install updates on my
computer. Many updates will fail to install properly
also. I thought the XP Service Pack 1 still had the
Microsoft VM? Where am I able to download the Microsoft
VM so that all these updates will install successfully?
