Scanning for what? Filenames, folders, malware, or what?

SimpleOCR

This page mentions "Download the Command-Line DEMO" so perhaps they have
a CLI (command-line interface) to their main program. There is also a
link for "Buy the SDK or Command Line version".

You can run HP software from a Command Prompt (I did it just for the
hell of it) but that's really working the hard way if you've got an icon
on the desk top.

I figure the OP wants to operate his scanner from a script where he does
something before scanning, does the scan, and does something afterward.
He could even schedule the script. We don't know what optical scanner
the OP has because he never bothered to mentioned. Maybe, for example,
it has a multi-page feeder, employees are expected to slide in some
sheet after finishing some task, and sometime during off-hours the
scanner reads in the sheets to keep an electronic copy or to send to
another office site. Could be the user is blind and its easier to setup
a script with voice command to "run xyz script" than to fumble around in
the dark trying to click on icons.

The OP never explained why he wants a CLI to some OCR software. Put a
thousand authors together to write up possible scenarios for the reason
the OP wants this and you get up to a thousand different stories.

He didn't actually say he wants OCR, though the fact that he used the
word "documents" might _imply_ that.

Eh, that's true, too. I didn't find online help (the user manual) for
SimpleOCR. It if scans and then has you do the OCR then you could scan
and just keep the raw input. Wonder why he doesn't use the software
that came with the device. Guess it doesn't have a CLI.

For scanning only (and again assuming the OP has an optical scanner he
wants to use with hardcopy documents as opposed to software that scans
through document files), there's VueScan (http://www.hamrick.com/);
however, I don't know if it has a CLI.

The OP could use AutoIt or AutoHotkey to script macros to manipulate the
GUI programs.

The other assumption I made is the OP wants freeware. The OP never
mandated freeware-only suggestions or if he'd be willing to pay for the
program. I didn't bother hunting down payware solutions.
