Default OT keyboard alphabet soup

My older Steelseries keyboard is starting to give me some trouble, A
couple keycaps are starting to flake and a few days ago the n key
stopped responding (a small squirt of MG contact cleaner got it going
again ) I know, it's a membrane KB but it worked for now.

So onto Amazon .ca I went and typed in keyboards and Amazon responded
with " one of sixteen of over 100,000 items found! Yikes better refine
my search, this could take years.

So I decide to look for boards for $100.00 or less, I won't pay up to 2
or 3 hundred dollars for a KB, also it has to be a mechanical KB with
replaceable swithes.

Well I had to learn a whole new vocabulary to know what they all meant,
New words Gateron, Outemu,
Gaote, doubleshot keycaps, PBT, TKL and other new jargon.

So after a couple days of reading reviews and searching I finally found
what I think is a suitable one amongst the hundreds.
for a reasonable price of $84.95 cdn.

https://www.amazon.ca/Redragon-K555-...1637996&sr=8-3

I'll see better in a few days when it arrives

IBM's Model M has membrane switches. Reliability is
legendary. I have a 1984 example, made in USA.

unfortunately, you'll have to wait for it to be back in production.

I still have a model M in the basement with a 5 pin DIN plug, not in use
for some time.

These days when there so many available keyboards that are just fine, as
far as I'm concerned, and they are so inexpensive, reliability is almost
meaningless to me.

Actually, that's exactly the same one I have, it's a gaming keyboard. I
bought it at Canada Computers about 2 years ago for about $40 on sale,
definitely worth the price. Even $85 is worth it for a gaming keyboard,
they typically go for over $100.

Yeah, Looks like a good KB to me, It has been in production for over 4
years and still selling.
It gets literally hundreds of reviews with most of them 4 or 5 Out of
5, Another good feature is if a keyswitch ever goes bad you can plug a
new one in in seconds at a cost of about 95 cents.
I also ordered their Red WASD and arrow keys ,Makes it easier to use for
keyboard and mouse first person shooters which I still play some of. :-)

Your Model M in the basement probably has replaceable key covers that
can be popped off, leaving a blank key underneath. I've seen replacement
sets of the covers, including blank ones for the expert typists who
don't need to see any markings.

The new Redragon K555 "with molded keycaps offering crystal clear
uniform backlighting and lettering that doesn't scratch off" looks like
a winner. And it's splash-proof!
My first Model M drowned in Formula 409, several keys stopped
responding, and I found the working parts were forever encased in a
riveted clamshell of steel.

and a few days ago the n key stopped responding (a small squirt
of MG contact cleaner got it going again ) I know, it's a
membrane KB but it worked for now.

OK, but Rene's has to be a mechanical KB with replaceable switches. He
has an aversion to membrane types.

I bought one of their wireless headsets about a year ago. Haven't
used it.

So after a couple days of reading reviews and searching I finally
found what I think is a suitable one amongst the hundreds. For a
reasonable price of $84.95 cdn.

https://www.amazon.ca/Redragon-K555-...ue-r%C3%A9tro%

&keywords=redragon+k555&qid=1591637996&sr=8-3

I use a $15 Hewlett-Packard SK-2061.

The keyboard just has to work for ordinary input, I use speech for
dictation and automation (recently bought a decent microphone). If
the mouse is wireless and has a freewheeling scroll wheel, I'm good.

It may be my last keyboard and so decided on a Mechanical gaming board
to experience what they feel like compared to membrane which I have used
for years.

I also ordered 10 new switches in case I may ever need them for 95 cents
each, switch puller for $4.25 and a bag of Silicone O-rings in case the
blue switches are too noisy, so I am now well prepared to try it on
Thursday.
