Default Can't log in

Jonathan, I've got two computers running XP and Norton Internet
Security and Internet Connection Sharing. On one, messenger works
flawlessly.

On the other, I have to disable the firewall, log in with messenger
and then re-enable the firewall. All other functions work except for
the login procedure.

I've tried configuring the firewall for "Automatic" and "Permit All"
for Messenger with no change. I've also tried your step #4 below. It
allowed access the first time we logged in, and then reverted to
blocking the login.

The Firewall log file says something about a referer being blocked for
net.login. I was going to configure it to allow referer for the
specific sites, but they appear to be a moving target

Any suggestions? I'd ask in a Norton InternetSecurity group, but my
ISP doesn't carry any of them.

Thanks
Greg

Greetings,

Here are some suggestions you might want to try/check:
1. The date on your computer needs to be set properly -- double click the clock verify that
the time and date are set.
2. If your password information is not saved, verify that you are typing it in with the
correct case (uppercase or lowercase).
3. Change your password @ http://memberservicesnet.passport.co...erservice.srf, then try
signing in again.
4. If you use a firewall (like ZoneAlarm, Norton Internet Security etc. ), it's possible
that Messenger doesn't have the correct rights to access the Internet. You may need to
re/add Messenger to the allowed list of programs in your firewall if this is the case.
5. If you disabled your firewall in the past, it still may be blocking Messenger -- try
restarting it and see if that helps the situation. You also might try uninstalling an
installed firewall, to verify that it isn't causing a problem (even if it is disabled).

Whenever I try to log into MSN Messenger I can't , an
error message appears saying " We were unable to sign you
into .NET Messenger Sevice, possibly because of a problem
with the service or with your internet connection. Please
make sure you are connected to the internet " This has
been going on for about 2 weeks. I checked the status for
the msn servers and it always says there up and running.
I also can't connect to to the server of kazaa, windows
messenger, and outlook express. They all say that i am
not connected to the internet. Does anyone know why this
could be and how i can fix it?
