O.T. eBay malware/virus?
This is getting very involved,.. you want me
to open up the 8500 just to do the same tests for the 780 HD? What if it screws up the 8500 somehow? I do not understand why S.M.A.R.T. isn't working because as you said the HD is plugged directly into SATA port. If I do move it over I shouldn't have to change the boot sequence since the 8500 HD is already selected is that not correct? I don't want to experiment on my computers with programs that aren't supported and have no manual. Robert |

I'm thinking perhaps it would be best to
just clone the drive since it's the original versus opening up the 8500 and putting it at risk. I would hate to have anything go wrong with the 8500 but I seem to get hit with 'Murphys Law every time I have a computer problem. Robert |

Cloning keeps the procedure isolated to the 780. Paul |

I also did not find any Kapersky file in Program Files or Program Files(X86). Robert It's not going to be there. When you boot the Kaspersky CD, that is the operating system while the test runs. The data files (done during the definition updates) are stored in "C:\Kaspersky Rescue Disk 10.0" . The program does not run from "C:\Program Files" area, because that would be for the subscription version that runs when Windows 7 is running. I gather you don't have a subscription, and are using the Rescue CD for offline scanning. The CD uses "C:\Kaspersky Rescue Disk 10.0" to store data files. If you clean out and remove that folder, that "resets" any corruption of data files. It's probably not corruption, and is just as likely to be a change in the program version at KAV headquarters which causes a problem with older versions of program. Normally, you would design the definitions to continue to work with older versions, so I don't understand such a design decision. When there are multiple OS disk drives in a computer, Kaspersky selects just one of them to hold "C:\Kaspersky Rescue Disk 10.0" and in such cases, you have to search the disk(s) until you find that directory, to figure out where the "home base" is put. When the normal operating system (Win7) is running and not the KAV CD, that folder does not affect operation of the machine. Neither is there any AV effect coming from the folder. The folder is dormant while Win7 is running, and only useful to the CD when it is the booted operating system and scanning program. Paul |

I started to burn the CD on the 8500 then realized I forgot to check verify disc after burning. So I cancelled it and re-started the procedure then it gave me this: https://i.postimg.cc/4NPXfC9c/60-Kapersky.jpg I was using the same CD-=RW disc that had the old Kapersky10 on it but erased it and started to burn until I stopped it. Now it's asking for DVD-R format. I had one left so inserted that and I still get the error. What's going on ? Robert I don't think you're doing anything wrong. https://www.thewindowsclub.com/burn-...party-software So we need to find "error 0xC0AA0406" and see what it hints at. I think what is happening, is the built-in optical disc burner is assuming you want some sort of multi-session disc. 561MB+561MB of information, is more than the 700MB disc can hold. Well, you never intended this to happen in the first place. You need to erase the CDRW so there is 0 bytes on it, before burning the 561MB ISO again. I'm assuming the IMAPI2 interface in Windows knows how to convert the KRD.iso into a bootable CD. I normally use Imgburn here, but the interface on it is imposing. Even finding the erase command is a chore. To erase, I pretend I want to burn an ISO first, and use the upper-left tile as my option. When that is done, there is then a menu on the right presented, and part way down that menu is the Erase Disc option and that's how I fix up media. Then, I can go back and select any tile I want for the next step. Now, in this case, I'd still be using that upper-left tile to burn the ISO file to disc anyway. Imgburn tends to do single-session work, so there's less chance of me ending up trying to write 561+561MB of files to a 700MB CD. Your mission then, is to find an Erase Disc option, using some software on your machine. I presume the Windows IMAPI2 software has such an option. ******* OK, with the disc in the optical drive, go to My Computer and right-click the optical drive letter. See if there is an "Erase this disc" at the bottom of the menu. Try that first, then go back to your original operation and see if the C0AA0406 doesn't show up this time. http://www.shivaranjan.com/shivauplo...ecddvddisc.png ( http://www.shivaranjan.com/2009/06/0...e-cd-dvd-disc/ ) Paul |

I did erase the CD-RW because it gave
me a pop-up prior to running the download that it had data on it (Kapersky 10) so I clicked OK to erase it. http://i65.tinypic.com/2ufrdd0.jpg Robert |

Apparently it was a bad CD,.. I put in a new CD-RW
and no problems: http://i67.tinypic.com/25s9cue.jpg However during the verification it opened the CD-tray and not thinking I clicked close, thinking it was to close the CD-tray but closed the program instead. Here's what on the CD: http://i68.tinypic.com/33ts605.jpg Should I re-do it? Robert |

Agreed,... I think it's time to clone
the 780 and put in a new fresh 2TB HD. Then I'll pick up more spare HD's after December. I'll let you know how it goes,... Robert |

I started to Clone but instead of
saying Disk Image it says Backup http://i67.tinypic.com/jsft6x.jpg I opened Macrium on the 8500 and it shows Disk Image but for some reason the 780 shows Backup and there were no updates. Robert |

No, you haven't give this to me before but
I've saved it. I ran Imageburn verify and although it didn't have any read errors it had allot of Miscompare's. So it seems I have to re-do this. Robert |
