Default CD ROM not reading at all HELP!

I haven't used the CD rom in a long time. I unplugged all wires from the CPU
and then vacuum the dust from the vents. Reconnected all cables and now the
CDRom will not work at all, no music, no pictures from the disc, and no games
from cd rom. Please help...

Using a vacuum cleaner anywhere around a computer or computer
equipment is a very bad idea. It is very easy to fry hardware with the
static electricity it carries.

I can't tell for sure, of course, but you may have fried the drive.
Consider yourself lucky that you didn't fry the whole computer.

The way to remove dust from electronic equipment is by blowing it out
with a can of compressed air, not by using a vacuum cleaner.

The only ways I know to tell if the hardware is shot are to try
replacing it and to try the same device in another computer.

Ken meant that you may need to replace the drive (not the driver, that is
software). They are easy to replace; after all there are
at most four screws and two cables holding it in place.
