Greetings dale,

The library reference here is actually part of MSN 9 (as in, MSN Explorer) which isn't
required to use Messenger. Are you actually using MSN Explorer or MSN Dialup access? If
not, a quick uninstall of MSN 9 from Add or Remove Programs in the Control Panel will most
likely solve this.

My error report is identical to that described by the initial poster. A
Windows Explorer Search shows an hmssm9.dll file in the MSNCoreFiles and
MSNCoreFiles.bak folders respectively:

The former is 834K, dated 8/14/2008, (presumably the active dll causing the
error)

the latter is 769K, dated 3/20/2007.

Since I can't Add/Remove MSN without completely losing email access - the
Add/Remove dialog identifies this app' only as "MSN" - is it reasonable to
overwrite the newer hms' file with the older one? (Performing a suitable
backup of the newer file first, of course.)

As a side comment, I have no use whatever for Messenger instant messaging
and would delete it permanently from my system if I could. Unfortunately the
MSN app' requires its existence in order to function.

Thanks,

John
