SP2 and Active-X

My PC with SP2 refuses to allow the HP site to download and install an
active-ex script to check and see if I need updated software. HOW THE
$&*&^%$ bloody hell do I shut that damn thing off? I need this done. Do I
have to uninstall SP2 yet again to allow the HP site to install the script?
Clicking on the bar to allow it didn't work.

How do I get rid of these Sp2 pain in the ass security problems?

My PC is a HP w/W-XP Home/SP2 .

I'm the Owner Administrator of the PC and the only user.

I suspected as much but that's not the problem - see below. I somehow have
to DISABLE SPs security thing from stopping the Active-X download from HP.
Nothing works that I've tried.

One way is to put the relevant HP site into your list of URLs in the
Trusted Zone (IE, Tools, Options, Security, Trusted Zone).

ActiveX controls can be lethal. I would strongly advise against
allowing *all* web sites to drop arbitrary ActiveX controls on your
PC. You may well wish you could go back to a working system with
annoying warnings, after being nailed by commercial malware and
sometimesworse, delivered through ActiveX intrusions.

download what I want.

There are times when you just have to enable ActiveX..its that simple.. I do
it without problems.. I am just careful what I activate.. if you take the
'blanket' view not to ever allow anything, problems will follow..

Let me add that even though I have security set to ALLOW Active-X downloads
(in Tools/Options/Security) the security bar still opens and says "click
here for more information." However when it's clicked on NOTHING HAPPENS!

PLEASE = how can I either get rid of or disable this security bar short of
uninstalling SP2 again?
