Startup Errors 2
With the Task Manager open, click File, New Task and enter EXPLORER.EXE
This should restart the shell. If not, in Task Manager, Click File, New Task and enter REGEDIT Go to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon Look in the right pane for a value called Shell. It should read EXPLORER.EXE (it may be all lower case as well). If it doesn't, double click the Shell value and enter explorer.exe If the Shell value doesn't exist, right click in a blank area of the right pane, select New, String Value and name it Shell. Then modify it as above. -- Doug Knox, MS-MVP Windows XP/ Windows Smart Display Win 95/98/Me/XP Tweaks and Fixes http://www.dougknox.com -------------------------------- Associate Expert ExpertZone - http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/expertzone -------------------------------- Please reply only to the newsgroup so all may benefit. Log on screen, background wallpaper and music - but nothing else - no icons, start taskbar etc....Ctrl/Alt/Del gives use of Taskmanager but Explorer.exe not running, and will not, nor will some other apps and utilities. Attempting to understand what has gone wrong - so system restore is not an option - YET!! |
