printing through a zipdrive
I have a new Dell with XP and have been trying to get my 890c to print
working through my zipdrive like I did on my old machine where it worked just fine with 98. When I try it on the new one it prints a third of the picture and then ejects the paper and any other paper in the tray ad infinitum. Plugging it straight to the parallel port it works fine but Im not impressed with the print quality. It was better on the old p2-400. So now I hav 3 devices wanting a parallel port(I had 2 on the old machine) and cant make it work with the zipdrive. Must I go buy everything USB to get things to work right? |

XP will not support piggy backing of parallel devices (as you appear to have
discovered). You can purchase a separate PCI card with an additional parallel port, or you can switch to a USB printer or Zip drive. Or, of course, with 2 PCs, you can network them together and use the parallel port on the old PC, have the printer attached to that PC and then print through the network! yes I have but dont understand what the difference is. I had this
configuration running on my old box on a 2nd port because the scanner demanded the onboard one. It worked fine for years and now XP is screwing me. I knew the old scanner was a lost cause but this really puts me in a bind. Ive tried networking the two together and it works fine as long as I dont want to be on the internet. Routers and cable access dont seem to like each other much so Im back to just the new machine online. Thanks for the reply. "Cari (MS-MVP)" wrote in message ...
