Old dos games
I have some old dos games and I am wondering if I can play them on an XP
machine. If so, what steps must I take in order to make them work? Thanks Steven |

Hi Steven,
Many of them will work, just run them from the command prompt (start/run = cmd). If you need to create certain system settings, use the = environmental variables section of system properties/advanced tab. You = may also be able to use the compatibility wizard under = start/programs/accessories as well. Programs that require direct = hardware access generally do not work. --=20 Best of Luck, Rick Rogers aka "Nutcase" MS-MVP - Win9x - = http://mvp.support.microsoft.com/ Associate Expert - WinXP - Expert Zone - = www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/expertzone Win98 Help - www.rickrogers.org "StevenS" wrote in message = ... What do you mean by " direct hardware access"?

Hi Steven
Eye of the beholder should work although you may need to use VDM Sound https://sourceforge.net/projects/vdmsound/ to get sound in the game. Mark "StevenS" wrote in message ... Windows does not allow this as much, and in XP it is not allowed at all. To access a hard drive in Windows a developer must call a WIN API function to access a hard drive. |
