"Download Document" and others
I have one user, recently upgraded to XP, that has 50
print jobs sent out to all three networked printers that state "Download Document..." and blocks up the print que. Also, the same user gets a print job printed successfully message for every print job in the building. I thought it might be an adminitrative group thing, but he isn't in the group. It gets pretty annoying clicking okay about a hundred times a day. I turned off all the messages in the Server Properties. Any other suggestions? Thanks, Sean |

There is a virus out there that will copy infected exe files to network
shares. This includes network shared printers. Since the files are transmitted using Server Message Blocks (SMB) rather than Remote Procedure Calls (RPC) the files names are "remote download document" in the print queue of the shared printers. Usually this results in many pages spewed from the printer with one or two wacky characters on the top line of the page since the printer itself does not understand C++ or the language of the executable. Disable the Messenger service on the client. -- Alan Morris Windows Printing Team Search the Microsoft Knowledge Base he http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=fh;[ln];kbhowto This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties, and confers no rights.
