Default WinXP Doesn't Seem to Use Monitor Color Profiles Correctly!

I've got dual monitors that I'm trying to color correct
to match using monitor color profiles that I've created
with 3rd-party software. Even though I create two
separate monitor color profiles, one for the left monitor
and one for the right monitor, when I go to load the
profiles into Windows XP, (Display Properties, Settings,
Advanced, Color Management, Add...) Windows doesn't seem
to be able to assign each profile to the respective
monitor. It simply assigns the "Default" profile to BOTH
monitors, even though it will let you add as many monitor
profiles to the list of profiles as you like.

Is this a bug or some compatibility issue between the
video card driver and Windows? Does anyone know of a
work-around? I've tried to match the monitors "manually"
using the hardware color adjustment controls built into
the monitors but it's too inaccurate for the work I need
to do in Adobe Photoshop, hence my desire to use monitor
color profiles instead.

Thanks a lot for any help you can provide.

From what I understand the XP desktop is one entity spread across multiple
monitors. You can't apply different profiles to different parts of the same
object.

Now, some clever person has to have found a solution but I haven't seen it
yet...

I 'spose the easy solution is to use the same model of monitors. I set the
colour profile for my primary monitor and just use the secondary for
toolbars and other apps that are open when I'm working in Photoshop.

Gee! You don't think it could be your 3rd party software not doing what it
is supposed to do??? Is it produced by a company anywhere near the size of
say Microsoft or Symantec, or is it a freebie you found on some hacker site?
