Default Front side bus won't run at 133Mhz

I just bought a Pentium III(1Ghz) and installed it, but I
can't get the bus to run at top speed. It will only run
at 66Mhz. The computer runs at 500Mhz, but when I set the
bus speed to 133Mhz it hangs up. It seems to post
correctly, and I can get to the place where you are given
options of how to load Windows, but even in safe mode it
locks up. It gives me a message saying that
Windows\System32\Config\system file is missing or
corrupt. Any help would be appreciated.

What does your motherboard manual say about upgrading the
CPU? Does your motherboard use the BIOS to set FSB, CPU
multiplier, etc. or do you have jumpers to set?

Is your RAM rated PC133?

You can download the Bel Arc Advisor www.belarc.com or
AIDA32 http://www.aida32.hu/aida32.php
and get a reading on your motherboard model and other data
you might need to complete your upgrade.
