PC card ethernet or usb?
Definitely prefer network to USB.
The data transfer rate for USB 1.1 is pathetic. My cable connection is 10 x faster than my USB connection, therefore it (USB) gave me a big bottleneck. The exception is if your PC AND cable modem are both USB2 compatible. I haven't heard of any cable modems that are, and unless your modem tells you so in foot high letters, you can bet it's a USB 1.1 (hence slow on USB). In contrast to Peter's experience my Realtek RTL8139 Family PCI Ethernet NIC refuses to install with XP Pro. I have tried various driver updates, and different PCI slots on the motherboard, but it won't work. Any tips Peter? Regards, Richard -----Original Message----- Hi, My Realtek RTL8139 Family PCI Ethernet NIC works fine with XP Pro, just installed it and XP load the drivers itself. It connects with my DSL running at 100Mb/sec. Peter -----Original Message----- Hello, all. As you can see from my other post, I'm having trouble installing PC cards for an ethernet connection through cable modem. Should I just go for an ethernet to usb converter instead? Does anyone like this combo? Thanks. . . |
