BIOS Upgrade
Just to let y'all know... the BIOS Flash is done... no problems... it solved
the power issues... and Windows XP did not need to be repaired... Thanks to all... timb "Yves Leclerc" wrote in message ... The reason that the Bios updates do not mention XP is that XP may not have been out when the update was released. BEWARE!!!! Do not proceed with the BIOS update when you are running Windows! This can cause the BIOS flash to fail. I always follow the flashing routine based on DOS. Windows XP can create a MS-DOS (WinME) boot disk. Yves "Tim" wrote in message ... I'm running an "older" system with Windows XP Pro... runs great really... all service packs and patches applied... Micron 667Mhz PIII... Tyan Tazer II (Trinity 400) motherboard... VIA Original Award BIOS Version 1.06... Micron has some later BIOS Versions available which might solve my shutdown issues, however, the notes on their web site says specifically... "Version 2.33 BIOS flash update for the Tazer - Tyan S1854 Motherboard, MBD001125-xx. Valid with Windows 98/NT/2000/ME only." Oddly enough, they say the original BIOS - V 1.06 is valid only with Windows 9x and WindowsNT... but we KNOW that's not true... What this probably means is they never tested it with XP and they de-supported me long ago since I changed my original O/S... The last thing I want to do is cook my BIOS, but I can't imagine it not being alright, especially since they say it's OK with Windows 2000... I've tried every other trouble shooter and hack to get the machine to shut down... Tyan has a revision version 1.07 for this mother board... specific O/S requirements are not mentioned... Does anyone have any advice or experience on this kind of update ? If I flash the new version of the BIOS and it fails, can I typically flash it back to the original version ? I have that file too... any help would be greatly appreciated... Thanks... tim |
