delayed write error

after installing the drivers for my radeon 9700 pro and
rebooting i get a delayed write error at the winXP logon
screen and system wont boot.
message is "windows failed to save the information in
C:/windows/system" other directories are C:/windows C:/
$mst or smt.
at the moment im using the default vga.dll driver from
XP,
ive tried the drivers on CD that came with the card,
catalyst3.2 drivers from the ati website and catalyst3.0
drivers from a covermount disc
my hardware/software is :- pentium 4 2.4ghz,msi MS-6567
mainboard,radeon 9700 pro,creative sound blaster
audigy,1024mb ddr ram,directx 9.0a all hardware has
latest drivers installed
