CD R/RW can't read any disks after XP
I had the same problem when i installed roxio Easy CD
creator.....i downloaded the XP compatible drivers from roxio website and it worked fine.....have u installed XP compatible drivers? -----Original Message----- after upgrade to XP from ME i can't read discs in my CD-RW (D drive. the system recognizes my drive is still there, it didn't vanish, and sees that a disk has been inserted but starts a file search / read attempt that comes up with nothing. i originally installed XP from this drive but had to use my DVD-ROM (E drive to add backup utility later. these are original drives on an HP8775c, not added later. the CD-R/RW is shown as IDE-CD R/RW 8x4x32 using microsoft driver 07/01/2001 5.1.2525.0 and reportedly is the most current driver available. i have already updated system bios as well. running with 512Mb memory & 60Gb hard drive. device manager says drive & driver are working fine with no problems. i did not yet convert file system from FAT32 to NTFS. this happens with previously burned data cd's, audio cd's, original installation cd's or anything. explorer is still able to read all of these same discs in my DVD-ROM drive with no problem which enabled me to complete software reinstalls. i previously had EZ CD creator 5 platinum installed. i uninstalled this, reinstalled it and continued with the upgrade to EZ CD creator 6 which was done through the DVD-ROM drive. i don't recall if this happened immediately after the XP install or after uninstalling EZ CD 5. i have installed the 6x driver updates from Roxio already. same issue comes up when trying to burn either CD-R or CD-R/RW as it cant read / recognize the blank. any suggestions?
