twain on xp pro?
Hi
I am having problems trying to install my scanner since upgrading from win 98se to xp pro Its a claen install and i have all the patches, updates and the service pack installed. The problem is when i install my drivers for my scanner ( black widow 4800pp) which works through the parallel port. Windows xp tells me "flat bed not ready -- install twain drivers in windows folder" My instalation disk is an exe file which installs the drivers to window/systems folder. I have copied the twain files to the wimdows folder but that doesn't help. I have checked out black widow site (devcon)but i can't find any help there Thanks |

Hi,
There doesn't seem to be any drivers for your Black Widow 4800 scanner, try doing a google search for your scanner and windows xp drivers. There are some users who have had success using another driver for the 6100 that worked with the 4800. If you're unable to find a driver that works, then you'll have to purchase a new scanner that supports WindowsXP or use the scanner with an older computer that still has Windows 98. Good luck. -- Gary Tsang "Pete" wrote in message ... Devcom have long since gone out of business. It has nothing to do with the TWAIN (which actually stands for nothing more than 'Technology Without An Interesting Name') and everything to do with the scanner being unsupported and, therefore, completely useless (OK, not completely useless, it would make a novel doorstop or bookend). I reckon you have no choice but to purchase a new scanner; 'time, tide, and technology wait for no man'. -- Cassandra Card carrying member of the Fresh Start Club 'The Undead Are People Too!' With the move to USB the makers of scanners have no interest in writing new parallel port ones either. If you go to the makers site you *might* find some for Win2000, which might work, otherwise you are stuck (though there are now reasonable USB scanners at very low prices) -- Alex Nichol MS MVP (Windows - File Systems) Bournemouth, U.K. |

Other people had problems like this, with other scanners. They found that
by installing and using the scanner in Windows 98 compatibility mode, the scanner worked for them. Yves "Pete" wrote in message ... Like Alex said, replace with USB. Fry's Electronics is advertising HP
Scanjet 4200C USB 39.00. Ain't worth keeping or fixing when you can replace for next to nothing.
