Default CD Drive

My CD RW drive will no longer read any disks. It worked
last night and I have not installed any new software or
updated it's driver. One thing that has puzzled me though
is that both my CD drives are labeled as SCSI drives, even
though they are (I think) both IDE, but my other drive
(DVD) works fine. I've tried reinstalling it and done a
system restore to no avail, and now I'm out of options.

Any response will be greatly appriciated

Sorry but nothing on that link seemed to help, my final
option is to clean the drive, but then I doubt if my drive
will even read the cleaning CD

try a cd-dvd cleaning kit or if u r brave - strip it right down and clean
the laser with a q-tip dipped in meths - re-assemble - should work like new.
