XP and drives larger than 137GB
I installed a Western Digital hard drive (200 gig), and
even after performing all the steps referred to in Microsoft Knowledge Base artical 303013 (enabling LBA support for Windows XP w/SP1, which I have), it still fails to report the full size of the drive. Help!! |

It's reporting 127 GB, not 184 or 185GB as I expected,
and as you suggest. -----Original Message----- Jerry K. wrote: I installed a Western Digital hard drive (200 gig), and even after performing all the steps referred to in Microsoft Knowledge Base artical 303013 (enabling LBA support for Windows XP w/SP1, which I have), it still fails to report the full size of the drive. XP and drives larger than 137GB
Thanks for that info.
Here is what I did this morning. It's a fairly late model computer, but I did go to the motherboard website and got the lastest bios flash, and performed that first. So I know the bios has 48 bit LBA support, for certain. Then, I did the registry patch described below. Now, I had already installed and initialized the drive prior to doing all these things. After making the registry fix, I "uninstalled" the hard drive, and reinstalled it. The computer management utility STILL only reports 137 gig, and when I add a partition, it shows 127gig tops. I just can't seem to get around this, so I'm really puzzled as to why I am having this problem. Anyone who can shed any light whatsoever on this, it would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks. -----Original Message----- Hello Here is another link, also make sure that your Bios support that larger drive also ok. http://www.winguides.com/registry/display.php/1115/ Alvin "Jerry K." wrote: I installed a Western Digital hard drive (200 gig), and even after performing all the steps referred to in Microsoft Knowledge Base artical 303013 (enabling LBA support for Windows XP w/SP1, which I have), it still fails to report the full size of the drive. I found the answer to my problem. I have a computer that
has an Intel motherboard and chipset. Even WITH the LBA support enabled, you STILL have to visit Intel's web site, and get a free download called "Application Excellerator". Once you download that, THEN and only then will you see the full capacity of your larger than 137GB drive. Again, please keep in mind, this applies to Intel motherboards only. If you have a different type, this will likely not work, and worse, might do damage to your system. -----Original Message----- Thanks for that info. Here is what I did this morning.
