Are "compressed folders" REALLY just ZIP's
If so, can I use a command line utility to generate any-old zip file and it
will work? Or is anything special needed? Maury

Yes, compressed files under XP are basically ZIP files, and most file compression programs are compatible. For example, the PKZIP command line utility will work well with XP compressed files. -Reed MVP Shell/User
