Default CD-RW audio corruption...

Three weeks ago the sound on my CD-RW dirve became corrupted--scratch,y
static interference. The problem was solved by uninstalling (reinstalling)
the Secondary IDE Channel of the IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers in Device Manager.
Today the same situation occured. Unistalling/reinstalling the Secondary
Channel again solved the problem. Any ideas why this problem would recur so
soon. Is a faulty CD drive a consideration? Thanks for any advice.

You're approaching this as a drive problem. It's possible it's a sound card
problem. If using onboard sound (chip built-in to motherboard), try
updating drivers if any are available. If an add-on card, check connections
and/or updated drivers. With an add-on card, you could also try moving it
to a different PCI slot.

Hi- Thanks very mush for your response. I am still learning--Yes, the sound
card is built in the motherboard. Do I access the Motheboard in the Device
Manager? Then update the drivers of my default sound system? Thanks, again.

No need to access the motherboard in device manager. You need to track down
sound drivers. If the system is from an off the shelf OEM (Dell, HP, etc),
check their site for drivers.
