Default (Cable Modem) ip add always 0.0.0.0

Just to clarify -- I am not on router. I tried repair
option vut that did not work. Following mnessage was
obtained.
Following operation failed
1) Renewing IP address
2) Purging DNS Resolver Cache
3) Refreshing DHCP leases and re-registering DNS names
