Default Saving Folders Settings In XP Home SP1

I've tried the reg hack for increasing # of folders xp will remember
the settings for. I've checked and unchecked all the boxes that are
supposed to remember settings. I've also pressed CTRL when exiting
folders. NONE of them have worked.

I might add that everything was fine until I got the BKDR_HACDEF.73.B
virus. Took me 4 days to get rid of it. Perhaps a dll file could
have been mangled. Anyway, before the virus, ALL folder settings
remembered. After the virus, NO folder settings remembered
HELP PLEASE

Thanks!
