Back in XP days when I wanted to change my internet home page I would go
to the page I wanted to change to and go to internet properties and
click on use current and it would change. Now in win 7 the button use
current is grayed out is there a way to turn that feature back on?

Thanks Farmer

I have a Win7 VM with IE10 in it.

0) Start IE10.

1) Right click some of the white-space near the top of the IE10 window.
You will see a right-click menu with "Menu Bar" as the top item. Make
sure that "Menu Bar" is ticked.

2) Now you should have a line with

File Edit View Favorites Tools Help

3) Select Tools : Internet Options

In there, I see a "Use current" button as you suggest.
Mine can be changed.

I'm sure you've done all that, and instead,
something is "busted".

Now that I've just set my Start page to something goofy,
I can use Regedit to go find it. I did a search for
"oracle.com" using the search option in Regedit, ticking
all the item types so I'd be sure to find it. You too can
use Regedit, to see how yours is set.

HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main
Start Page REG_SZ http://www.oracle.com

So the Start Page entry appears to save the Home Page
entry. That's if you want to go down there and edit it.

In Regedit, with "Start Page" highlighted (clicked),
go to Edit : Permissions and see if a number
of your accounts have "Full Control" ticked.
As that should give permission to change it.
To the best of my knowledge. A toolbar could
"lock" you out of the permission needed to
change the registry entry, and that's why you're
checking for "Full Control".

It's always possible that some anti-adware or
anti-malware product has "locked" the item to
prevent changes. Or even some inadvertently installed
Toolbar could mess with your copy of IE10. Starting
IE10 in Safe Mode, may temporarily give some
control, only to have control snatched back later.

How to Run Internet Explorer in 'Safe Mode'

You can also make a shortcut to Safe Mode for yourself.
That allows you to add "-extoff" to the command and
make it easier to use.

I'm sure there's a proper way to do this, but I can't
find it right now. I don't see a Safe Mode option in
the IE menus. There's probably an IE Reset option though.

If you do have Adware or a Toolbar as an infection,
they're not going to allow you to make any progress
on this issue. They will relentlessly put their crap
back there.

In IE11, go to the page you want, then click Tools/Internet Options/ then under
Home Page, click Use Current.

Hope that works for you.

Home page is a browser function. My preferred browser is Chrome which
has a use current function, not grayed out. My preference is a blank
page and about:blank works for starting with a blank page.

In my IE 11 Win7, use current is not grayed out. I can use about:blank
and use IE's use current tp have its start page be blank or any other.

Assuming you use some form of IE:
Does "tools / internet options" not work for you?

Ditto on the blank thing. I don't want to sit there and wait for a page
to load when 99% of the time I don't care what's there. This is
especially true with my blazingly fast 3M DSL. But the Spammers have
found a new way to disrupt life as I know it. They've figured out a way
to pop you over to their (home) page if you open a 2nd tab! This was not
easy to get rid of. Don't remember the details, but Google is your
friend. BTW, is was in Fire Fox, however, I do use IE for some
functions, and it happened there too.
