Default Messenger on my PC at work

It appears Windows Messenger is installed on my PC at work (C:\Program Files\Messenger\msmgs.exe is there), but when I double click on it nothing happens. There's no tray icon or program group for Messenger. Is it possible that this is disabled? Can I r
e-enable it? Thanks.

Greetings Jacob,

It may be that it's been disabled, depending on what kind of access you have you may be able
to reenable it. To try, download and run these .reg files:
http://messenger.jonathankay.com/dow...enger_user.reg
http://messenger.jonathankay.com/dow...emessenger.reg
If you get an error on either, that usually indicates that you do not have access to use
Messenger. Regardless, if at least one worked, reboot, and then try running it again.

That didn't do the trick. There is a PreventAutoRun on both the HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Mess enger\Client and on the
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Mes senger\Client with values of 00000001. If I changed these both to 0, do you think that would do it? Thanks.

Hi Jacob,

PreventAutoRun shouldn't cause this behavior. Have you tried simply installing the latest
version of Windows Messenger:

I haven't been able to download .exe files in the past, but when I tried today, I was able to download it. Go figure.

However, after installing and trying to open, I get this message:
Signing in to .NET Messenger Service failed because the service is temporarily unavailable. Please try again later.
Click the Help button to check the current .NET Messenger status.

What's the deal?

P.S. I'm also going to repost this question as a new thread. Thanks for your help.
