Win 7 still supported? KB2952664
I thought Win 7 was not going to be supported?
Today it says KB2952664 is "important". Is it still trying to sneak Win 10 ? Is it safe to accept 29952664? And an "optional" I did not accept is gone. Thanks for any comment. --- This email has been checked for viruses by Avast antivirus software. https://www.avast.com/antivirus |

Is it safe to accept 29952664? 2952664 is on my list of updates not to install because it may try to sneak on Win10. I think it was mentioned in Computer Active (UK) under their "do not install" list, along with 3035583 3021917 Whether this is actually the case, I don't know, but no way am I risking it anywhere near my Win 7 PC which will NOT be upgraded to Win 10 except over my dead body. |

There's always askwoody.com ! Says "CEIP". Rather than "GWX". https://www.askwoody.com/tag/kb-2952664/ It just means they're not sneaking enough Cumulatives into Win7, to get the payload in there. I don't remember details of what that entails, but I remember it was a lot of stuff that I don't want Microsoft to have, thinks like my machine configuration, what software is installed, and I think logging of at least some keystrokes. If I weren't so tired, I'd think up an alternative expansion of CEIP. I'll bet most of you can do better than this: Creepy Extra Invasive Probing. -- Stan Brown, Oak Road Systems, Tompkins County, New York, USA http://BrownMath.com/ http://OakRoadSystems.com/ Shikata ga nai... |

Well, in theory, a developer uses some sort of CEIP API, to keep track of what happens when their program runs. Maybe it records max heap and stack, records program crashes (controlled ones). It's not supposed to be intended for other than that. It was supposed to help that developer, keep track of program failures, which can be "fixed in the next update". The data is stored on a Microsoft server ("vortex") for later. The Developer then logs in and looks at the variation in memory usage, crashes, or whatever, over all users of that program. How does it really work ? Who knows what else is captured. You might need to know about other programs, to detect "conflicts". Paul |

Thanks for any comment. It's an update mainly for the Windows Customer Experience Improvement Program "feature". https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc766341(v=ws.10).aspx Which is IMO, simply just a user data tracking "feature". |
