Default Slow Windows Explorer

I want to rename a file (one at a time) on these
May be without J: or K: or one or both.
Make no difference the number plugged in.

C: main Windows drive
or
J: USB Flash
or
K: USB Flash

All three take minutes to have the name change show.
The original filename shows the editing but the box around it does not
go away (and Windows Explorer is frozen) and the name is not changed
until the box goes away (then Windows Explorer is unfrozen).

This takes minutes.

What is happening ?
Where to look ?

You have a mapped drive, which is no longer present,
and the rename operation causes Explorer to investigate
*all* volumes.

I have the same thing happen here, when some of my disks
spin down, and then some little thing in explorer causes
them to spin up again. And the File Explorer related operation
won't start, until all volumes report in.

When a mapped drive on the network is unavailable, it may
take some amount of time until the link to it "times out"
because it cannot be found.

And no, I don't know how to list these and be sure.
My Network Places might show popular temporary mounts, but
I don't know whether permanent mounts are included there
or not.
