Because he was a good friend, I took his old XP machine AMD-2800
and gave him a spare Win10 machine.

I decided to format the drive , put in 2 gigs of ram and install Win7

All went well except (as I already knew) it will not update until I
install a newer browser. The funny thing is I could not go to the
Microsoft site to download it with IE8.

I had IE11 on a USB stick but I just thought this funny.

Because the CPU does not have SSE2 I could neither install Firefox or
Chrome.

Maybe one of my friends can still use the machine.

Anyone know a decent browser I could put on a low spec machine like this?

I've been playing with this, Philo

https://github.com/brave/brave-browser

It works well on my iMac and is supposedly good on all platforms.

No. Philo is a big boy now; maybe he'll use it on another computer.

Indeed. I suspect you've been an arsehole for the whole of your
miserable life. You're sad. :-(

You have no idea at all of what Philo may or may not like.

I very much doubt that you are even aware that he's just repaired a
1930s radio for a friend. He's a great practical man, good with
computers and photography, and I think of him as a friend. He's
certainly not afraid of HIS shadow, Shadow!

Yep.

Will try Brave Browser for sure.

After I got Win7 updated the machine came up with a green screen after a
reboot. Not a corrupted OS as even the BIOS screen was green.

The machine had on-board video but when I simply installed a
card,...same green screen.

Considering what software is available, probably
the best conclusion. There will be other, more

Thanks for the update. I had a tear in my eye when I took me old iMac to
the tip! :-(

Btw, here's another browser you might like to play with: https://vivaldi.com

Cheers! :-)

There's a reference here to FF49 working without SSE2 support.
Firefox versions after that might need SSE2.

The Firefox releases are available if you want to spend the time testing.

Thank you.

Once I load an alternate browser I'm going to give the machine away if I
can find a taker.
