Default [OT] Is there an update app software package change between Win7 and XP?

My Win 7 Office 2007 program repeatedly crashes trying to do a simple
operation in powerpoint. I've tried to find any update to for the
product. Is it the case that MS only provides auto updates? That is, no
manual updates. I can't even find info on the last update of the product
in the Win7 version of Add/Remove product.

I think I'm right about this. I hung onto XP until about a year ago then
moved to W7. Marketing has changed. There are no upgrades any more. PPt
2007 is basically dead, but MS does has paid tech support. If the
problem I had cannot be solved, I get to buy the new 2010 PPt.

updates not upgrades, as highlighted as above.

Oh, there is free e-mail support. I'm using it now, but it would be too
early to say anything pro or con about it. My experience with the Live
W7 forums is they are a slow way to get help. I'm not even sure they
have MVPs.

I don't think that you are right about this!!....

(dispite the fact you admit to using Win7 and post to an XP-discussion
group) I am using WinXP with Office 2003 and *still* get regular updates
for Office!

I suspect that you have either not configured Windows Update correctly or
perhaps are not displaying "Updates" in the "Add or Remove Programs" (or
"Programs and Features" in Win7).

I'm just a baaad guy posting here. Shame on me. :-) I'm sure you can get
XP app updates, and I can get them as part of the auto-update mechanism.
What neither of us can do is get an upgrade from say PPT 2003 to 2007.
No more upgrades on apps. Good luck if you can find one. I'm in the USA.
Perhaps mileage varies.

To be clear about the "upgrade" on PPT. You can certainly buy 2010 to
replace 2007. You cannot get a discount to buy 2010 if you do own 2007.
That notion of upgrade is gone.

Please - speak for yourself!

The whole point of my initial reply was to tell you that [although] I am
using WinXP, I have Office 2003 installed and *do* get regular updates for
M$ Office and Office component applications (Access, Excel, Outlook, PPT,
Word, etc.,).

The last automatically downloaded/installed update recorded for Power Point
was;

Security Update for PowerPoint 2003 (KB2413304):POWERPNT Installed On
17-11-10

....and the last update for *any* Office component application was this;

Update for Outlook 2003: Junk E-mail Filter (KB2508974): OUTFLTR Installed
On 09-03-11

....which was only one week ago!

And so I have no explanation why you should not have received any recent
updates for Office 2007 through Automatic Microsoft Updates on your Windows
7 system.

As if I am getting updates with an older Operating System (XP) and with an
older version of Office (2003) I can't see why you shouldn't, having more
recent versions of both....

But you *can* yourself get up-to-date (regarding updates for Office 2007)
by downloading and then installing the Office 2007 Service Pack 2 by using
the
following link :

The 2007 Microsoft Office Suite Service Pack 2 (SP2)
