O.T. - Connection Problem:
With no other options at present I
thought it might be of some help to run the various Avast scans to see if they turn up anything ? Smart Scan: http://i64.tinypic.com/2j11mdw.jpg Software updater: http://i68.tinypic.com/16a6yvb.jpg I prefer to update manually from the source like you suggested. The way I find the 'source' is to go into Programs and Features and find the program and highlight it. It usually has some sort of link with 'support', 'updates' etc. However, If I'm doing it wrong or there's a better way I would appreciate it if you would point me in the right direction. I had the malwarebytes won't start pop-up twice when trying to boot the 8500 and troubleshooting couldn't detect the problem. I checked the Adaptor settings http://i66.tinypic.com/2dqk7ea.jpg Do you use the Wifi for anything ? I try to turn off the radio on my laptop Wifi. In Win10 this might be "Airplane mode", as a means to turn off the RF section. There was some other setting in Windows 7. There is no Wifi on my router, so no need to even consider Wifi on my setup. It finally connected via yellow triangle but I don't know how unless troubleshooting started something? I looked in Programs and Features and there's no Itunes or Bonjour. http://i67.tinypic.com/zunu9t.jpg http://i67.tinypic.com/ejecle.jpg I notice in the first picture, you have three CISCO software packages. They appear to be some sort of authentication software for the Wifi (for logging ihto something). They may have been packaged with a larger installer package (maybe part of the Wifi installation). I tried to send Agent Ransack to my desktop for searches (Itunes/Bonjour) but it didn't look the same but when I tried opening it, Avast Sandbox started to run so I cancelled it. Next I just clicked on the Agent Ransack program itself and it gave me this. http://i65.tinypic.com/2yo7ehv.jpg Out of the three or four sub-items in the Agent Ransack menu section, did you select the correct one ? One of them might be an "uninstall" item. (On WinXP, Agent Ransack presents just one menu item, and it's in the search section.) I have to watch this sort of thing, as my eyesight isn't very good, and I might be off a bit with the mouse and select an adjacent one. when I clicked repair it went into the Avast sandbox again so I cancelled it. Should I let it complete or would it be better to just reinstall (if you could please give me a secure link)? I have version 37.0 In trying to resolve the problem I did a Avast Smart scan for the 8500 and 780 and it came back with : http://i64.tinypic.com/2j11mdw.jpg It mentions outdated software, and has one of those PC optimization analysis we all like. Version 7.7.9 is the last version of QuickTime that I know of. So you cannot update that one. Thunderbird, the program normally has a "check for updates" item in the preferences, where you can set the policy for whether to allow automatic updates, or manually check for updates. Generally, Thunderbird updates are innocuous, so it's not as obnoxious as updating your NVidia. I have more of a problem with the Performance Optimization stuff. The 780 also had the same results. I didn't let it resolve all problems and backed out until you give me instructions on what to do. Robert |

Smart Scan: http://i64.tinypic.com/2j11mdw.jpg Software updater: http://i68.tinypic.com/16a6yvb.jpg Quicktime 7.7.9 is the last version available. It cannot be updated. The only "maintenance" possible on Quicktime, is permanent removal. I'm surprised the Smart Scan doesn't know this. Thunderbird can be updated using the interface in the preferences. It knows where to get the update. I prefer to update manually from the source like you suggested. The way I find the 'source' is to go into Programs and Features and find the program and highlight it. It usually has some sort of link with 'support', 'updates' etc. However, If I'm doing it wrong or there's a better way I would appreciate it if you would point me in the right direction. Well, unfortunately in the case of OEM computers, the manufacturers "**** on" one anothers trade names. Dell put their name on the Wifi installer, obscuring whether it's a Realtek installer, and the Realtek installer may have installed the three Cisco packages. This makes it a bit difficult, when checking your Programs and Features, to figure out how stuff got there, and what is safe (or reasonable) to remove. And some installers suffer from "overreach" now. The Intel Management Engine, for example, decided it would be cool to install a plugin in Firefox. As a result of this outrageous action, I can no longer install (or recommend) resolving Intel Management Engine entries in Device Manager. The Intel package has no tick box, to control the sections of the installer, and the package is "all or nothing". Networking: http://i63.tinypic.com/2s66e5v.jpg Clean-up: http://i68.tinypic.com/34439g1.jpg This is one of those awful cleanup interfaces. http://i63.tinypic.com/2dsi9ud.jpg When you see a list like this, and some of the items are large, ask yourself why. For example, if you saw an error log size which was simply huge, a normal person would want to open the log and see what was getting logged. I would not be in a rush to delete stuff, unless the stuff was true rubbish. Sometimes you get hints from what is in the rubbish. http://i66.tinypic.com/rw2m3p.jpg browser helper object (BHO) can be adware. Now, why couldn't the clever Avast people label these BHOs ??? I thought they were trying to be ever-so-helpful. When I look at that information, I don't know if the items are "good guys" or "bad guys". http://i64.tinypic.com/2edwe4j.jpg iphlpsvc (IP Helper Service) is for transitional support of ipv6. It includes 6to4 and teredo IPv6 tunneling. It has been known to rail a CPU core in the past. It is part of Windows and can be updated by Windows Updates if there are bugs. Sandbox: http://i65.tinypic.com/6gzllt.jpg Safe Zone: http://i63.tinypic.com/9h8368.jpg Are they running your browser in private mode ??? Are they faking certificates or what ? While they may be well-meaning, on occasion they slip up, and the result is more like a MITM (man in the middle) attack, than actual protection (some other software has tried the "faking certificates" trick in the past and screwed it up). I'm guessing it is not turned on. VPN: http://i66.tinypic.com/28kh8hk.jpg Secureline is not turned on right now. ******* While I could come up with suggestions for modifications to the software you're running, I have to temper my enthusiasm with the possibility I might break your setup. And that wouldn't be very good. My philosophy: 1) Only take driver updates, when they're actually needed. 2) Examine driver packages for "cruft". For example, I didn't do my due diligence on the Intel Management Engine (because I've had good experience in the past with Intel), and so I got their browser plugin as a reward. It broke downloading capability in Firefox. I couldn't believe my eyes. 3) Only enable parts of the machine you are using. On my old machine, I kept the Promise chip turned off. That meant not having a Promise driver in the OS, not having to worry about driver updates and so on. In your case, if there is no possibility of the Wifi being used, I might turn it off. Paul |

Robert There is a suggested recipe here, if you want to switch off the Wifi radio. http://superuser.com/questions/89545...-turned-it-off Device Manager Network Adapters Wifi Device, Atheros or Dell ??? Advanced Tab Radio On/Off But maybe you don't have to rush off and do that right away. Just make a note in your notes file for later. ******* In the first picture, does the Teredo Tunnel item ever remove the yellow triangle ? Teredo, as far as I know, supports IPV6 inside the computer, to IPV4 outside the computer. And is part of "mixed" networking setups. The IPV6 packet is encapsulated in some sort of IPV4 packet. I wonder if your "service outage" is caused by the machine attempting to communicate using IPV6, failing, and eventually trying IPV4 instead ? If the Teredo Tunnel is broken, maybe that plays a part in delayed network startup. So maybe a thing to do, would be to check that yellow mark, read the error number off the Teredo entry, and figure out what to do next ? ******* In the second picture, you've selected the installer file for Agent Ransack. If you go to the Program Files folder, under Mythicsoft, the icon for the actual AgentRansack.exe program file is a secret agent with a magnifying glass, with a blue color to it. Paul |

http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/w...d-a69c8910e17e below is an extract to check Teredo Tunneling: Follow the steps mentioned below: First, let’s temporarily disable antivirus software and Firewall on the computer as a test. Note: Make sure you turn-on the antivirus software and Windows Firewall later. Now, let’s verify the status of relevant services required. 1. Click Start , type services.msc in Start search box and hit Enter. 2. Right-click the Peer Networking Grouping service and select Properties . 3. Check if the service is started; if not, right-click and select Start . 4. You may also set the Startup type to Automatic under Properties . 5. Click OK . Repeat the above steps for the service PNRP Machine Name Publication Service , too. Next step would be to modify IPv6 registry key to enable IPV6: Important This section, method, or task contains steps that tell you how to modify the registry. However, serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you follow these steps carefully. For added protection, back up the registry before you modify it. Then, you can restore the registry if a problem occurs. For more information about how to back up and restore the registry, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base: How to back up and restore the registry in Windows http://support.microsoft.com/kb/322756/ 1. Click Start , type regedit in Start Search Bar and hit Enter. Note: If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type your password or click Continue. 2. Locate and then click the following registry subkey: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\servic es\TCPIP6\Parameters 3. Check whether DisabledComponents registry key exists. If yes, let's proceed to the next step. 4. Double click the DisabledComponents registry key and modify the value to 0 . If the DisabledComponents entry is unavailable, you must create it. To do this, follow these steps: 1. In the Edit menu, point to New , and then click DWORD (32-bit) Value .. 2. Type DisabledComponents , and then press ENTER. 3. Double-click DisabledComponents . Type 0 to enable all IPv6 components. 5. Exit Registry Editor, and then restart the computer. Refer: ow to disable certain Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6) components in Windows Vista, Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929852 Since it had to do with the registry I though I'd wait for your suggestions on what to do. I wouldn't expect to find an actual "cause" in the Device manager, but the error code is a start. The procedure here, is focused on HomeGroups, which depend on IPV6. You might verify your IPV6 is turned on. You're not likely to have ZoneAlarm, which is a program where a preference in ZoneAlarm, is used to write to the DisableComponents value in the registry. There are a couple services related to IPV6 listed here. https://social.technet.microsoft.com...tpronetworking The DisabledComponents entry is described here. https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/929852 Tried to turn off the radio: http://i63.tinypic.com/2mwuii1.jpg Do you check the individual tabs ? http://superuser.com/questions/89545...-turned-it-off I couldn't find a Program folder just the exe. so searched for Mythicsoft and it found the exe for it and I clicked repair but encountered an error: http://i68.tinypic.com/elq35.jpg Thoughts/suggestions? It's so common, that all the "fake" repair sites have written their own useless articles about fixing it ("use our registry cleaner, use our PC optimizer" etc). At some time or another, I think I've had that one here. Paul |

The QuickTime is no longer supported, so if it has security issues, they cannot be fixed. Using the menu on the right, you could change from "Ask to Activate" to "Disabled" or similar. The Silverlight, I think it's still getting patches but I have no way of checking - except for the odd VM with Silverlight in it, it typically isn't installed on a host OS here. That's why I have trouble seeing the Microsoft help videos on the support page :-) I don't see anything outrageous in your setup, and the semi-dangerous ones are set to "Ask to Activate". And I'm sure you keep your Flash up-to-date. If there is an exploit, the plugin status will be disabled from the Mozilla end, until you patch it. And instead of seeing videos on Yahoo news, you might see a warning message where the video would normally appear. So Flash is treated a bit more seriously. Flash is the most dangerous thing in a browser now, and it's because the bad guys know everyone is running a copy. I have news sites here that simply will not stop using it. The sites offer no alternatives. (The replacement is HTML5.) Paul |

Robert In theory, the item for the Wifi, the menu for it should have something to turn it on and off. http://www.sevenforums.com/attachmen...aio-enable.png I gather you've slightly modified the name of the Agent Ransack installer. When the program is installed and running, the icon in the Task Bar should look like Dick Tracy. Changing the name should make no different to the icon at all. The icon might be a "resource" stored in the EXE, and extracted by Explorer when it wants to show an icon for it. I'm still not finding any automation for Teredo repair. Just a lot of the same ole recipes, with the same *risks* . http://www.wintips.org/teredo-tunnel...t-code-10-fix/ Teredo will not work, without the Windows Firewall running. I gather the idea is, to provide some protection for the machine. When I looked at the services on my machine, they were set to Manual, and there's no IPV6 at all in my house. I don't think my VOIP ATA (which functions as a router now), has IPV6. And I don't use Homegroups. I don't see why it would prevent IPV6 though, from running between two of my machines. I'm pretty sure I've seen IPV6 running here in the past. I saw an indication in one of your pictures, that you use Homegroups between the 8500 and 780, and according to the articles, Homegroups won't work unless IPV6 is running on the Lan. I don't have Homegroups set up here - usually the computers run enough different OSes, that just wouldn't be all that useful. Workgroups is more useful. (Even Linux can use SMB, with varying degrees of endless username/password entry. Some Linux distros get it and don't cause a fuss, the others are pure pain.) Paul |
